ToldYouTees is a small husband-and-wife project, and honestly, it started around our kitchen table.
One of us is a software engineer who got a little obsessed with what AI could actually do (yes, we build a lot of this with tools like Claude). The other is the creative one, the one who’s forever coming up with the perfect slogan for a birthday, a hen do, a new hobby, or an inside joke. The problem was, whenever she went looking to actually buy those shirts, they didn’t exist anywhere.
So we made our own. And it turned out other people wanted them too.
That’s the whole idea behind ToldYouTees: shirts for gloriously specific people and moments — the hedgehog obsessives, the pickleball fanatics, the dungeon masters, the “don’t talk to me before my coffee” crowd, and the one-off slogans for that event you can’t find anywhere else. The kind of shirt that makes someone say “okay, how did you know?”
How we make them
He uses AI as a design tool; she brings the ideas and the words. Then we curate and refine every design by hand, because an algorithm doesn’t know why a niche joke lands. We do. Nothing goes in the shop unless we’d happily give it to a friend.
